Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior HR Advisor to join our People team in Perth. Reporting to the Human Resources Lead, this senior, hands‑on role is suited to an HR professional who thrives in a fast‑paced, operational environment and is confident partnering with leaders to deliver practical, compliant and commercially sound people solutions. 

 

The Opportunity:

As a Senior HR Advisor at MLG, you will operate as a trusted advisor to leaders across site and corporate environments. You will provide end‑to‑end HR advisory support with a strong focus on employee and industrial relations, Fair Work compliance, Enterprise Agreement interpretation, and workforce lifecycle management. 

This role plays a key part in supporting MLG’s operational workforce while managing risk, driving consistency, and embedding best‑practice HR processes across the business. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a senior point of contact for employee and industrial relations matters, ensuring procedural fairness and legislative compliance 
  • Ad-hoc regional site travel as required 
  • Manage and report on complex ER/IR cases including investigations, grievances, performance management, disciplinary processes and Fair Work matters (including conciliation where required) 
  • Interpret and apply MLG Enterprise Agreements, Modern Awards and relevant industrial instruments 
  • Partner with site leadership and corporate stakeholders across Perth and regional operations 
  • Provide coaching and guidance to leaders across the full employee lifecycle 
  • Support the development, review and implementation of HR policies, procedures and guidelines 
  • Contribute to HR initiatives including performance reviews, engagement activities, workforce planning and change management 
  • Provide oversight and continuous improvement of HR systems and reporting (ELMO HRIS and related platforms) 
  • Support international employee and visa processes where required 
  • Collaborate closely with recruitment and mobilisation teams to support operational workforce requirements

About You:

You are a confident and credible HR professional with a pragmatic approach to people matters. You are comfortable working autonomously, managing sensitive and complex issues, and balancing operational demands with compliance and risk management. 

You bring strong judgement, resilience, and the ability to influence leaders in a practical, solutions‑focused way. 

Qualifications: 

  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a related discipline or equivalent experience. 

Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within a Human Resources Business Partner or Senior HR advisor role within a complex operational environment.  
  • Strong background in employee and industrial relations within Australia 
  • Solid working knowledge of Australian employment legislation and Fair Work frameworks 
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying Enterprise Agreements and Modern Awards 
  • Demonstrated experience Enterprise bargaining.  
  • Experience working with HRIS platforms and preparing HR reporting and analytics 
  • Exposure to end‑to‑end recruitment, onboarding and site mobilisation processes in an operational environment 
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with site and corporate leaders to deliver practical, risk‑aware HR outcomes 

Desirable:

  • Previous experience supporting operational, site‑based workforces within the mining services, resources or heavy industry sector 
  • Formal training in Microsoft Office Suite or other organisational systems/tools 
  • Current C‑Class Driver’s Licence
